Citizen Science
Citizen science is a research approach that actively involves local communities in scientific processes. Residents become researchers and, together with scientists, explore issues important to their everyday environment.

Community members co-create research tools with professional researchers — for example by identifying key questions about their neighbourhood. They may collect data on air pollution, document daily mobility routes, or count passengers on public transport, contributing to broader research datasets.

Citizen science is also a form of education and a way of strengthening civic engagement. A better understanding of processes shaping the city helps people make informed decisions and support meaningful changes in their environment.

While this approach is widely used in environmental and natural sciences, our foundation develops it in projects related to urban space and mobility. We work with atmospheric physicists studying air quality and transport engineers analysing urban mobility. We also collaborate with the European Citizen Science Association (ECSA).

We apply citizen science methods particularly in projects such as CoMobility, where students participate in Urban Living Labs around schools, and REALLOCATE, where young people investigate mobility and quality of life in their neighbourhoods.
