Senior Cohousing in Poland

Let’s Live Together is a research and development project focused on creating the first comprehensive support system for cohousing initiatives in Poland.

The project responds to two major societal challenges: the housing crisis and the rapidly ageing population. Many older adults want to remain independent and live in their own homes, yet existing housing systems rarely support community-based living.

Cohousing offers an alternative. It combines private apartments with shared spaces designed to foster everyday interaction, mutual support, and a strong sense of community. While this model is well established in countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, and Germany, it is still underdeveloped in Poland due to legal, financial, and procedural barriers.

Our approach

The project develops and tests a service that enables communities, cities, and partners to initiate cohousing projects.

Our work combines research, co-design, and prototyping in collaboration with future residents, public institutions, and experts.

We are developing:

  • adaptable architectural modules for cohousing developments
  • legal and financial frameworks suited to the Polish context
  • a digital platform supporting the development process
  • a sustainable business model allowing the initiative to scale

All solutions will be tested in practice and refined through evaluation.

Why it matters

The project aims to unlock cohousing as a new housing model in Poland, supporting independence in later life while strengthening social connections and community resilience.

By bridging research, policy, and practice, the initiative creates tools that can be used by cities, residents, and partners across the country.

International collaboration

The project is implemented by an interdisciplinary consortium combining research, design, and international expertise.
